Motorola scored a patent victory for its Xoom tablet, even if it's an empty one. A German court ruled that the Xoom tablet, made by Google's Motorola, doesn't copy the design of Apple's iPad, according to the Dow Jones Newswires. Apple has originally claimed that the Xoom infringed upon three of the iPad's design patents.

While the win gives Motorola legal ammunition for its next tablet, it does little for the Xoom. While the iPad continues to dominate the tablet market, the Xoom left a small impression despite its coveted slot as the first Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) device to hit the market. The Xoom performed so poorly that in the U.S., its carrier partner renamed the sequel tablet Xyboard -- which didn't help with sales at all.

Motorola also sought to invalidate iPad's design patent, but the German court in Duesseldorf dismissed the claim. CNET contacted Motorola and Apple for comment. We'll update the story once they respond. Apple's initial lawsuit was part of an effort to get the Xoom banned across Europe. It had hoped to get a punishing enough penalty slapped on Motorola to force it to the bargaining table, where the two would strike out a licensing deal. The Dusseldorf court is also reviewing another tablet case between Apple and Samsung.

Amazon's Kindle Fire may be cooling down. That's according to Cowen analyst Kevin Kopelman, who today cut his forecast on the company's revenue, as well as sales of its Kindle e-reader and Kindle Fire tablet.

The forecast comes ahead of an expected refresh of Amazon's tablet, which made a splash late last year with its $200 price point. Since then, however, several other lower priced entrants have come out, most notably Google's own Nexus 7, which is selling at the same price, and a widely anticipated iPad Mini from Apple. As such, analysts are beginning to wonder how Amazon will continue to fare in the hyper-competitive market.

Amazon, for its part, continues to tout its Kindle line-up regularly, and places the Kindle Fire prominently on its homepage. Cowen's Kopelman believes the Kindle Fire could be hurt by the Nexus 7. He lowered his full-year estimate on Kindle Fire sales to 12 million units from a prior forecast of 14 million. He had Amazon selling 4 million Kindle Fire units in 2011, when it launched late in the year.

Kopelman also cut his growth forecast for the Kindle reader to 3 percent from a prior estimate of 30 percent, now calling the estimate "unrealistic." The Kindle has been hurt by Amazon's focus on the Kindle Fire, a decline in reviews on Amazon's website, Target's removal of the device from its stores in May, delays in the launch of its front-lit Kindle, and the difficult comparisons from the previous two years due to price cuts and advertising subsidies.

He expects Amazon to sell 16.3 million units for the year, up slightly from the 15.9 million it sold in 2011.

Mon, 03 Sep 2012 03:56:00 -0700 The origins of the apple ipad have been dug up here http://xuzarevteme149.posterous.com/the-origins-of-the-apple-ipad-have-been-dug-u http://xuzarevteme149.posterous.com/the-origins-of-the-apple-ipad-have-been-dug-u The mockup even had the Apple logo, but the home button was absent from the design.

This prototype may have been what inspired Steve Jobs to make the iPhone. In 2010 at the All Things D conference, the late Apple co-founder admitted: "I'll tell you a secret. It began with the tablet." "I had this idea about having a glass display, a multitouch display you could type on with your fingers," said Jobs. "I asked people about it. And six months later, they came back with this amazing display. And I gave it to one of our really brilliant UI guys. He got [rubber band] scrolling working and some other things, and I thought, 'my God, we can build a phone with this!' So we put the tablet aside, and we went to work on the iPhone."

The first iPhone was eventually released at Macworld 2007, and the iPad arrived three years later at a keynote in Yerba Buena. Ever since the Apple iPad was launched, tablet PC’s have been getting more and more popular. There are now quite a number of tablets available with different forms and features. People use them extensively for surfing, checking their email, downloading e-books, and many other tasks they would normally do on a laptop. If you are in the market for one of these handy devices, check out the following tips for choosing the best tablet PC before you go out and buy one.

Weight and Size: Consider the weight and size of the tablet PC. Since portability is one of the key features of the best table PC, look for one that is slim, light, and easy to carry around. Smaller tablets have a 5 or 7-inch screen but you may find this too small to get any useful work done. It’s better to opt for tablet with an 8.9” or 10” touch screen. Memory and Storage: Memory and storage capacity should be adequate. It’s best to have a tablet PC with a large memory and storage capacity. This will ensure that you will be able to load and run the applications you need and store your important files, videos, photos and music. Tablet computers typically have 1GB of RAM while storage capacity is usually 16GB or 32GB. Wireless Connectivity:Wireless connectivity is another thing to consider. In addition to WiFi, there are tablet PC’s with Bluetooth and 3G capabilities.

Google Tablet PC will have all three connectivity options. Battery Life: Since you will be using the tablet PC on the go, it’s best to choose a device with a long battery life. Some tablets only have a few hours of battery life. Look for one whose battery will last for at least 10 hours. Productivity Applications: To get full use of your tablet computer, make sure it comes with the software you need for productive work as well as entertainment. Are there many apps available for the tablet? Think about compatibility issues. Don’t forget that a computer is only as good as the application programs you can run on it. Features: Tablet PC’s use a touch screen as its primary input device. Some devices, however, may allow the use of a stylus, digital pen, or a mobile keyboard.

Mon, 03 Sep 2012 03:48:00 -0700 EBook Readers Vs Tablet PC's the full interview. http://xuzarevteme149.posterous.com/ebook-readers-vs-tablet-pcs-the-full-intervie http://xuzarevteme149.posterous.com/ebook-readers-vs-tablet-pcs-the-full-intervie The third (but not the last reason) was the availability and suitability of content (Books, documents etc) in electronic form, which could be read without straining the eyes.

Now with the advent of digital signatures, the vision of a paperless world is close to becoming a reality. Many Banks, brokers etc are offering incentives to take documents in electronic form over. Therefore, the time has now come for people to shun paper and save our environment. However, to do this, one has to substitute paper with a viable alternative. Therein comes Ebooks and Tablet PC's. The succeeding paragraphs shall briefly bring out the various factors to consider before buying them. In addition, check out this article to get another perspective on the same.

So, do the ebook readers available today have these characteristics? Simply put , yes, they do. How does the Apple iPad compare with the Kindle? Well, as the world is looking for the ultimate convergence device (a device which can be used as a phone, PC, Reader, Camera, Personal Information Manager, Mapping device, Internet browser, Television etc...Short of being used as weapon too :)), different products would have different functionalities. Sometimes, we get dazzled by the array of choices we have and then go crazy trying to figure out which product has better features, that we loose sight of our requirements. We can buy the ultimate convergence device with a gazillion features, but a sobering thought: Do I really use all the features? The answer in most cases is a big NO. Not because we dont want to use it, but because we dont have the time to figure out how to use it and by the time we do, something better has come out into the market and Human nature being Human Nature..we have got to have it..upgrade...So therefore, the learning curve starts again.

Therefore, if you own a iphone, ipod etc etc..and have no problem with the fact that the iPad cannot play flash and dont mind Steve Jobbs dictating how you upload and sync your data, the the iPad is for you. The iPad can do many things other than being a eBook reader which the Kindle cant. However, the Kindle does the job of letting you "Curl up in Bed" with a book extremely well. It has a lot of content available on the web, it is light, has a lot of juice(lasts really long) and is lightweight and cheap and does not strain your eyes like the colorful iPad.So if you want Style and Bling factor go for iPad and if you want style and functionality for for Kindle. Its a great deal. A funny thing...I actually got a an iPad manual in the Kindle store to be read on Kindle!!! How ironic..

Finally, Buy an eBook reader, if you like to read, dont want to lug heavy books around, dont want to clutter your house with books, save our environment and in general love reading. Dont buy it because it can help you to 100 other things of which 98 you shall never do and still pay for. However, if you want the functionaility and flexibility of a Laptop and an Ebook Reader thrown in..GO for a cheap Tablet PC Nexus 7.

Mon, 03 Sep 2012 03:38:00 -0700 Turn a Nexus 7 into a Kindle Fire http://xuzarevteme149.posterous.com/turn-a-nexus-7-into-a-kindle-fire http://xuzarevteme149.posterous.com/turn-a-nexus-7-into-a-kindle-fire I'm here to show you how to get (nearly) all of Amazon's great Android offerings on the click right here now.

Boot it up, and you'll see Google Books, Google Music, Google Video, and the Google Play app store, gazing right back at you. Unfortunately for me, I never use half of those services. When it comes to books, music, and movies, I'm an Amazon guy. In fact, thanks to a few months with the Kindle Fire, I've also racked up a dozen or so Android app downloads from Amazon.

Fortunately, it's pretty easy to get Amazon's Kindle reader app and Amazon MP3 app using the Google Play app store (formerly known as Android Market). The apps are free and they install quickly.

As far as getting your Amazon-purchased Android apps on the Nexus 7, that's a trick that takes a little work to pull off. First, you'll need to set up your Nexus 7 to allow the installation of apps from "unknown sources" (which basically translates into "apps that didn't come from Google Play"). Dive into your tablet settings, tap on Security, check the box for "Unknown Sources" and then exit out to your home screen.

Next, you'll need Amazon's Appstore app for Android, which you can use to download and install any apps you've already purchased through Amazon. To make things tough, you have to download it directly from Amazon by visiting the Appstore Web page, entering your e-mail, and then checking your e-mail on the Nexus 7 to locate the download link. It's convoluted, I know, but it works.

Once the Amazon Appstore app is up and running and you've logged in with your account, you can find your stash of purchased apps by clicking on the stack of three dots in the lower-right corner (Jelly Bean's version of the contextual menu button) and tapping on the My Apps option. From here, you can download your Android apps one by one.

So what about Amazon videos? Well, you'll have to live without them on the Nexus 7 for now. The ability to stream and rent Amazon video content (including free videos for Amazon Prime members) is a feature that Amazon seems to be reserving for the Kindle Fire. There's no Amazon Video app to download, and if you try to stream video content from the Nexus 7's Chrome browser, you're greeted with an Adobe Flash incompatibility warning. If you try downloading Flash Mobile through the Google Play store, you're told that the app is not supported on devices running Android 4.0 or later.

Now, surely there's a workaround for getting Adobe Flash on the Nexus 7, and I'll bet this blog post will receive a few suggestions in the comments. But even with Flash, viewing Amazon video content through the Chrome browser doesn't match the tailored experience of the Kindle Fire. And besides, the Google Video app and storefront really does an excellent job matching the content, pricing, and capabilities of Amazon's video service.

So there you have it, that's how to inject some Kindle Fire into your Nexus 7. Have fun with it.
